Finances...

I've just read 3 books by David Bach, the amazing financial expert responsible for the "Instant Millionaire" series of books. Finance has never been a topic that lights my fire, but after stumbling upon one of his books and reading the back of the cover, I was intrigued. Usually this type of book is written for someone who has a clue, clearly not me. David's books are so practical, so easy to follow, and he assumes NOTHING. lol...It's been so cool to be able to look at all the various components of our financial life and tweek some of the decisions we've made (the specifics of Matt's 401K at work, for instance), and know that FINALLY we know what we are doing! We've been a little bit of the blind leading the blind here...neither of us came into this marraige knowing anything about finances. Sadly, nobody teaches you this stuff...usually it's trial by fire. It has sucked to feel so clueless, and both Matt and I have been really inspired by Bach's book Finance for Couples. We'll be giving it to every newlywed and soon to be married person in our life. And telling everyone else about it! If only we'd had that book in hand 13 yrs. ago when we started out! Anyway, for anyone who'd interested in learning if what they are doing is the best use of their assets...if they are planning well enough for the future...how they can maximize what they've got to work with, no matter how small their income feels...how to live a "rich" life that isn't based on how much "stuff" you have...these are the books for you!
P.S. Matt and I are part of our parishes new Pre-Cana team, and have been asked to give the talk about Communication, and Finances. Ironic, huh? We're going to buy used copies of the Finances for Couples book (gotta love Amazon.com) and give one to each engaged couple as our gift. That's how important we think this book is. :)
