Are you a kindred spirit?
I'm truly passionate about books, music, relationships, building intimacy with other people, self-growth, the Catholic faith...I love learning deeper, richer ways to live out this life I've been given. I honor the diversity of other peoples journey's, and am uplifted and gifted by their honest searchings and by their own unique spirituality. I cherish having a shared history with the people I love, it makes me a rich woman indeed. Life is such an adventure, and I don't want to settle down and miss any of it!
I've always enjoyed musical theatre, visiting art galleries, live music... especially classic rock, blues, jazz. I collect very old books, and I read them all! I would love for my house to smell like a used book store! I'm working on it. I also have a pretty cool collection of old records, and yes, I listen to them. One of my favorite album finds is Herbie Mann Monday Night at The Village Gate, circa 1960. It's live, and I am totally transported when I put it on. If I could time travel, I would head to The Village Gate with a few specific friends and experience the series of jazz sessions that happened there at that time. Herbie Mann was booked for a whole week, and I wouldn't have missed a night.
I've been an artist since forever, and I express my creativity in my artwork (drawing, charcoal, painting, collage, etc), in jewelry making, working with my private art students, in the way I homeschool my children, working with art students at our homeschool co-op, nesting in my home, my gardening (especially my herbs)...it all just overflows into my life. I was raised in a counter-cultural family, and my husband and I carry on that tradition with our own flavor and style. I love antique hunting, wandering around NY (like a tourist, not like a homeless person), cooking for friends and family (have been on a vegan cooking adventure for about 2 months now), curling up with tea and a cozy book, Youth and Young Adult Ministry, sharing tea and conversation with friends, coffee in all it's glorious forms, traveling, any time I can spend at the ocean, entertaining, good wine and dirty martinis...and an ice cold gin and tonic in the summer, outer space, and sci-fi movies (I've been dying to go to space for as long as I can remember!), trying new foods, art in all it's beautiful incarnations, singing with my sisters... and laughing until I'm wiping my tears.
Some of my favorite places on the planet are New Hope, Ocean Grove, Denver, Toronto, and Valencia and Barcelona. These places all share a similar energy...lot's of amazing art, treasures to be found, fantastic food, facinating and unique people, good music, and lots of history to soak up!
I adore other artists, I lovvve to see/hear what they are working on, it gives me such a charge of inspiration and happiness.
I'm a member of Beta Sigma Phi, it's a national sorority focused on giving service to our communities, creating opportunities for cultural growth within the chapters, and building sisterhood. We also drink a lot of wine, share meals, swap recipes and good books, and laugh until it hurts. I have a fantastic group of additional beautiful women in my life because of it!
The amazing richness of this earthly experience never ceases to amaze me. I try to live in the moment, appreciate the incredible little things, pause in the breeze, listen to the birds sing, and turn my face to the sunshine as much as possible.
